The Nokia N96 has much more advanced features than the Apple iPhone. The already launched Apple iPhone has got a lukewarm response.

Nokia N96 definitely has an edge over the Apple iPhone in terms of cost and features. Though both the phones are 3G enabled, the Nokia N96 has a 5 MP camera and Bluetooth option, an advantage over the iPhone.

The main highlights of the N96 mobile phone are the 5 mega pixel camera, 2.8 inch TFT display with 16 M colors, Navigation via joystick and touch screen, connectivity options such as EDGE, GPRS, Bluetooth, and HSDPA. The handset has support for touchscreen and joystick navigation. Its integrated GPS displays maps of more than 100 countries. The device also has support for EDGE, Bluetooth and HSDPA connectivity.

The Nokia N96 slider phone has a unique design. It has two keypads that open up on opposite sides of the handset. The device can be slide opened either in upward or downward direction. One can gain access to its QWERTY keyboard by slide opening the handset in upward direction. When one moves its display downwards, it reveals another keypad that features a set of multimedia controls. One can also gain access to its navigation and shortcut keys even when the device lies in its slide closed position.

New LG Dynamite KP199 GSM Phone Launched In India

With the intention to strengthen its dynamite series, technology giant LG has rolled out a new handset named ‘KP199’ in the Indian market.

The newly launched phone offers users an outstanding battery life of up to 11 hours on talk time mode and standby time of up to 30 days through a high-powered 1350mAh battery.

LG stated that this model targets two major client needs in India. First of all Indian customers having an urge to link up via their cell phones with their allies and family members, hence they need a higher talk time. Secondly many Indian regions still do not have regular power supply, lots of non-urban regions only get partial power supply, and a 30 day standby time provides a better solution to overcome this problem.

The phone comes packed with astounding features, which include FM Radio with scheduled FM recording, FM Alarm, FM on Spk; a VGA camera for video recording; a 1.77-inch TFT 262K color display; MP3 player; Bluetooth with A2DP connectivity; and Java, GPRS, NDTV Active to remain connected with loved ones.

Mobile majors get smart to woo premium segment

Now that the iPhone frenzy has subsided a bit, both industry and users have thankfully moved on to the next logical discussion - that of the 3G ecosystem. Let's face the facts.

By now, geeks have globally dissected the iPhone to be an unimpressive phone with unmatched browsing and touch-screen capabilities. But does Apple or, for that matter, any of its smart(phone) cousins, spare a care for voice traffic anymore?

Be it Nokia, Sony Ericsson, HTC, RIM, Siemens, LG - you name it, they are all focused on the 'Indian panache' for data services. And as 3G becomes a reality, they would have moved way beyond data to the multimedia magic. The case is ditto for the carriers. Therefore, the telcos seem to have more than one reason to put most of their eggs in the non-voice services basket.

Hefty price tag spoils iPhone’s launch party:

High price and lack of high-end 3G services seem to have dampened Apple’s iPhone launch party in India. Only a few buyers turned up at midnight launches done by both the operators across eight cities in India.

The snazzy gizmo failed to draw crowds to the stores of Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Essar in sharp contrast to the international markets where iPhone lovers had queued up the whole night to buy the handset.

The mood was subdued at the midnight launch of iPhone at Mumbai’s Infiniti Mall with Friday being a working day. The stage was set for a grand launch, complete with confetti and cheerleaders, but at the stroke of midnight, there were just 10 people who actually bought the high-end device.

At a Vodafone store in Connaught Place, Central Delhi, journalists outnumbered customers by a huge margin. Only about 15 customers turned up to buy the phone. The Airtel retail store nearby wore a deserted look on Friday afternoon, with not a single customer buying the iPhone. In Gurgaon, Airtel unveiled the iPhone at Sahara Mall.

Despite the frenzy, the D-day did not quite match the expectations with just about 35-40 people lining up to buy the coveted smartphone.
